How to Use Your Parent-Teacher Time Wisely

Now that students have had a chance to get to know their new teachers and what is ahead in the school year, it’s the parents' turn. The Tutoring Center, Miramar FL has prepared the following post to help you get the most out of your parent-teacher conference.

Make a List

Too many parents leave their parent-teacher meeting and arrive home only to realize that they forgot to speak about a range of important items. Whether they just plain forgot or the conversation went in a different direction, it can be a real problem as these meetings aren’t always as common as parents would like. The best way to prevent this from happening to you is to create a list. Sit down and really think about all of the items you want to speak about with your child’s new teacher. Items like your child’s weaknesses, their strengths, their career aspirations, and any particular learning challenges they struggled with in the previous year are great talking points.

The Most Important Items First

Once you are confident that you have listed everything you want to speak about, prioritize each item in order of the most important first. While you will want to speak about each item on your list, if you run short on time, it’s important that you get the most crucial discussions competed before you leave.

Utilize Your Time Wisely

You may not like the new principal. You may not like the curriculum. You may even have a problem with the food and drink items offered. While these are all genuine concerns, they aren’t ones which your child’s teacher can help you with. Instead of wasting your valuable time complaining to a teacher who can’t help, focus all of your parent-teacher meeting time on your list and your child. The above items and any other issues you have should be taken up with the relevant people and departments in your own time.
